Project title: Training the rural pupils of the Bragin district in methods and skills of eye diseases prevention

Implementation place: secondary schools in the villages Krasnoye and Komarin, the Bragin district, Gomel region

Target group: the children, parents, teachers and medical staff

Project duration: 1 year

Project aim: Training the pupils, their parents, teachers and the school medical staff in methods and skills of eye diseases prevention in the local conditions.

We plan to involve into the project the pupils of the 1st-9th forms, who experience the maximum strain of their eyes.

Objectives:

1. To detect the groups of pupils most vulnerable to eye diseases. To discuss the issue with the pupils, parents and teachers; to define the negative factors and find out possible ways of their elimination.
2. To work together with all the involved pupils at school and at home in order to improve their conditions of life (a pupil`s working place, day regimen, foodstuff quality including radionuclid contents, etc.)
3. Working out a joint programme to improve domestic, school and ecological conditions from the point of view of eye diseases prevention.
4. Holding workshops with the participants of the project on the elimination of negative ecological factors impact.

Project implementation/activities:

• Involvement of the children, parents, teachers and medical staff into the process of eye disease detection;
• Examination of the children and promotion of methods of eye disease prevention
• Holding joint workshops with different target groups;
• Repeated examination of the pupils of 2 age groups; tracking the trends of morbidity and evaluation of the effectiveness of the applied methods;
• Holding the action "Life without glasses".

Expected results:

• A pupil`s working place at school and at home will be arranged in such a way as to prevent eye diseases;
• The children most vulnerable to eye diseases, ailing children, children from socially unprotected families will undergo a special course of vitaminization aimed at preventing eye diseases;
• An information board "How to preserve sight" will be set up at school and local rural outpatient clinic;
• "Life without glasses" action will be held.
